Just a few pictures of a little project I've been working on. It used to be a subwoofer from a Creative Labs 5300 5.1 PC speaker system,
but the circuitry went south on it a long time ago and I just couldn't bring myself to get rid of the sub box. I knew there was a mod in the future
just itching to to be done here. My goal with this project is to make a clean looking, functional little web / file server for home.
As you can see, I've already been working on it a bit. The speaker was removed, and replaced with a Coolermaster blue LED 120mm fan.
The rear panel was removed and cut out to install the motherboard I/O plate. The motherboard is a EPIA 1 Ghz. board with onboard
video, and has 1 GB of DDR installed. The power supply is a 60 watt, which is plenty to power this little setup.
Here is the I/O plate mounted in the rear panel.
Just a shot of the motherboard mounted inside. This was taken prior to mounting the case fan and painting the fan hole.
The fan mounted and powered up, sitting behind the original subwoofer face screen. Got to love blue LED's!!!
I may post more stuff up here in the future as I continue to do work on this. If there are other local guys out there who
enjoy modding your boxes, send me some pictures. If they're really cool and innovative, we might have to get a modding
section started on the web site to show off everyone's rigs.
