Korea, My first duty station in the Army
1985-1986 (78 pictures) |
My first duty station in the Army was with the 122nd Signal battalion, stationed at Camp Casey, Korea. This was just outside of a small town known as "Dongduchon" by the locals, but most of use just referred to it as "TDC" or "Tongduchon" in the military.
I was a simple Private E-2 at the time, but I remember it fondly and had a great experience being out of the United States for the first time. We worked and played hard in the 122nd - we had to. It was stressful enough being as close as we were to the DMZ, and being prepared was just part of what we had to do.
I've looked all over the internet hoping to find pictures and images from other soldiers stationed at Camp Casey, but they seem to be far and few between. This has prompted me to share some of my own with the world, and hope that others will find them and remember just how great it was to be there. You'll find this assortment of photos in no particular order, and I'll try to comment them as I can. Meanwhile, if you were there (especially a part of Bravo Company 122nd Signal) feel free to drop me a note and let me know. I've been lucky enough to find one former member of Bravo Company while I was there - the Commander CPT Voss. It's been nice enchanging a few notes and remembering the good times.
Keep in mind that I just scanned this pictures in, and they've been setting in the closet for 21 years or so. You can click on each of them to get a larger version. The quality isn't too bad, but some of them are kind of blurry.
If you have any pictures to share, I'd really enjoy seeing them! Meanwhile, on with the pictures!
